Sunday's Loveable Furballs - 8

You've heard the phrase it's raining cats and dogs, right? Well, Clay County Animal Care and Control is flooded. They are busting at the seams and in need of adopters, fosters, or rescue groups to help get their animals out.

Clay County is a kill shelter that is trying their hardest to do that as a last resort. So, considers helping save a life by adopting from them. One animal out helps another live an extra day. Their shelter is out in the middle of no where. (Really, you'll probably think you're lost trying to find the place). They also have an adoption center in Fleming Island where you can meet potential family members and ask about the others at the shelter.

Namath and I try to volunteer here once a month, it's almost an hour drive for us to get there. We've met a lot of great dogs and people from Friends of Clay County Animals (FOCCA). If you can't adopt from them, please consider adopting from else where when you want a fur baby. Adoption is the best option!

Did you save your fur baby from death row?

Here are some great pups courtesy of Pavlina Sanborn Photography. This amazing pet photographer volunteers her time to help get beautiful photos of animals needing homes.

Tally: She's about 7 and was dropped off by her owner for being too old. Jerk off... She's very sweet and hates being at the shelter. It's making her upset. Maybe you want to take her home?

Blitzen: He's about 2 and super smart.  He's kind of in his punky teenage stage, so he'd really do well with some obedience training. He will work for treats!

Daisy: She's about 2 and loves the tennis ball and treats.

Puppy Love

I finally have a fur baby!!!

Namath talked our landlord into letting us have a dog. (We're the most responsible tenants ever - seriously.)

We met Miss Cody on our first day volunteering.  She was so cute and shy. I renamed her Inky because of her stripes. "Inky" quickly became one of our favorites.

Around St. Patrick's Day when we came to walk the pups almost all of our favorites had been adopted. Yay!  But it left us a little bummed we couldn't see our buddies anymore.  "Inky" and Murphy were left, but Murphy is too big for our current place. :(  "Inky" would be a great fit though.

After we walked all of the pups, Namath took "Inky" out to play again. They were two peas in a pod goofing off.  That's when Namath said he couldn't take it if she ended up with a different family.

So, he spoke with our landlord, and I brought her home on St. Patrick's day.  We weren't prepared for a dog, but thankfully I have friends with animals and they hooked us up with the essentials.

Introducing...

 Kodee Beulla White

We reverted back to the name "Cody" because Inky White doesn't sound nice together.  What's with Beulla?  I thought it was a good southern name since Namath is from Southwest Georgia, and she is a southern dog...  I read the name Beulah in Gone With The Wind. :)

ABSOLUTE CUTENESS!!

She's doing real well, and will be enrolled in doggy obedience school next month.  Kodee will be the smartest dog on the block.

Puppy Love

I'm rather excited.  Namath and I are going to start walking dogs at the Humane Society. =)
It was, unbeknownst to him, on my to-do list for this year.  Since I have weekends off, I thought it would be fun to volunteer with animals.
I donate stuff to their thrift store when I do our spring/fall cleaning and try to donate money or useful items.  Anyway, I thought about the possibility of helping out with my time.
We've gone up there to visit a few times simply to tell the doggies they will eventually find a home.  We'd adopt one or two ourselves, but our landlord won't let us - which is a whole other story.
The last time we went up there we saw people with volunteer shirts playing with the dogs outside.  Namath asked if we'd be able to do it, and they say yes, they are in need of dog walkers.
So, on our way back to the car, Namath suggested if he could get the mornings off, would I like to walk dogs.  I think I must have swooned a little.  It was the sweetest idea EVER.  All the better because he asked.

The great thing about the Humane Society is they are a no kill shelter, so I won't feel terrible about leaving the dogs behind.  Plus, knowing a dog has been adopted means there is room for an other dog to find a home. <3

What about the cats?  I'm allergic, so someone else will have to play with them in Kittyburg. =)

Any volunteering suggestions?
